I took a piece of tempered glass and placed it on top of two filing cabinets or other pieces of furniture the same height. Place a lamp underneath. No shade required, the light bulb does the work for you.

It’s simple to put together, simple to use, and simple to put away. You probably wouldn’t need to buy anything special, especially if you already have the tempered glass. I’ve seen people recycle these out of an old stereo shelf.

A couple of milk crates and a board to lay across the top works great. You can even use the crates to store books, files etc. If not, try watching yard sales, resale shops (Salvation Army).

Seen the updates. Could you try the above idea, but instead of using a board using two pieces of Plexiglas (stick your drawing between the two to hold it in place) and put a small desk lamp on the floor underneath when you’re wanting to use it. Don’t know if it will work or not, but it’s the best idea I could come up with. LOL.
