How Do I Build Tone With Texture?
I need to sketch a shirt draped over a chair, and then build up the tone using textured material
How can I do this (i.e create highlights and shadows with just one tone)?
I think I can use things like newspaper, polyfilla, PVA glue, tissue paper etc.

Finer textured lines, closer together will produce darker tones because there will be less white space showing. Same is true of using thicker, heavier lines compared to lighter, thinner lines.
The light will provide the shadows and highlights. Newspaper and tissue paper are both good for this. You have to crinkle it, and have it provide the folds of a shirt in that way. That sounds like a fun project!
