Compared to traditional lumber 2x4 framing, how would you rate a "2x4" standard "C" shaped steel stud to bear weight? In short, which wall withstands more load?

I live in the DFW (Dallas, tx) area... but I can get this shipped. I need the lift to go up 42" (that's where the door of the building is) any ideas where I can get a used one? I don't care what it looks like.
thanks,
Izabela
I am considering building my own set of end tables because I can't find one in the store that I like. What kind of would should I use for the top? I plan on painting them so, the wood doesn't have to be stain grade. But, I would like to avoid the plywood look on the edges.
If I use the "skirting" method, does that leave a seam between the plywood and the skirting?
I'm interested in Composite Lumber for Decking and Fencing. I know very little about it, except hype and advertising. What is the best type for the East Coast (Some Snow, humidity?) What should I consider?
Is there a "Best Brand" or a brand you would suggest?
Thanks for any thoughts -
i plan on building a table in two 4x2.5 foot sections. i want to put two 24" or 36" black lights under plexi glass with a florescent design. I am concerned about the black lights getting too hot or something. Any ideas or is the heat not an issue?
